About us

AusIndustry is the Australian Government's principal business program delivery division in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.

We deliver a range of more than 35 business programs worth about
$2 billion each year to more than 12,000 businesses and about 70,000 individuals.

These programs include:
  • innovation grants
  • tax and duty concessions
  • small business skills development
  • support for industry competitiveness

Farm business operators in Victoria and the Riverina of NSW can win $7000 as Business of the Year, or $3000 across seven categories, in the 2008 The Weekly Times Farm Business Awards. Entries close on Sunday 30 November 2008.

BRW Fast Franchises 2009 is the chance for your franchise to receieve the recognition it deserves if it is fast-growing, innovative and successful. The award is open to listed and privately-owned franchise systems. Entries close on Monday 3 November 2008.

Innovative Australian food, beverage, restaurant and kitchen equipment and technology companies can learn how to tap into the United States' foodservice sector, where more than 70 billion meals are served each year in more than 945,000 restaurants in the United States, through US Foodservice trends and opportunities - an Australian Government interactive video conference on Tuesday 11 November 2008. Events will be staged in Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin and Perth.

The Pharmaceuticals Industry Strategy Group has released a Directions Paper, providing an overview of the Australian and global pharmaceuticals industries, the barriers and drivers to gloabl and Australian industry and recommendations on a sustainable future for the industry. A final report will be tabled by year's end.

Information and communications technology companies can attend free Australian Government seminars in Adelaide, Perth, Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney for ICT opportunities in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and India. The countries' markets will be examined with strategies explored and studies presented from experienced ICT exporters to these areas.

There are numerous opportunities for Australia's financial services sector to take part in the development of China's financial services sector. The Finsia Australia-China Financial Services Summit 2008 will explore investment and growth opportunities in China as well as risks and policy issues and regulations.

The Australian Government has awarded more than $363 million in funding to 1103 research projects under the Australian Research Council's National Competitive Grants Program. The five-year funding from 2009 comes from the Program's Discovery Indigenous Researches Development, Discovery Projects, Linkage Projects and Linkage International (ARC International Fellowships) schemes.

The $300,000 Prime Minister's Prize for Science has been awarded to Queensland's Professor Ian Frazer for his creation of vaccines which protect against cervical cancer. The $50,000 Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year has been awarded to South Australia's Tanya Monro for her invention of new kinds of optical fibres. The $50,000 Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year has been awarded to the ACT's Carola Vinuesa for her immunology work.  

Latest AusIndustry announcements

Queensland company BioEnergy Limited was awarded $64,000 to commercialise its process for extracting biogas from wet organic waste sites, such as rubbish dumps, and using it to generate electricity. This was one of 57 projects collectively receiving $3.6 million in Commercialising Emerging Technologies (COMET) grants.

Innovation Capital, an Australian venture capital fund, has led a $5 million investment in Canberra-based wind energy company Windlabs. Innovation Capital is operating under the Australian Government's Venture Capital Limited Partnerships program.
